Appeal on humanitarian grounds by UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. António Guterres, in respect of Ms. Aminatou Haidar

In light of the rapidly deteriorating condition of Ms. Aminatou Haidar, of Laayoune, on hunger strike at the airport in Lanzerote since 16 November, the High Commissioner appeals on the basis of UNHCR's good offices and on strictly humanitarian grounds, to the governments of the two states directly concerned, Spain and Morocco, to consider any measure that could facilitate her movement and end the current impasse.

Le HCR exhorte le Maroc et l’Espagne de faciliter le transfert d’Aminatou Haidar vers El-Ayoun NEW YORK (Nations unies) - Le Haut Commissaire des Nations unies pour les réfugiés, Antonio Guterres, a exhorté vendredi le Maroc et l’Espagne de faciliter le transfert, vers El-Ayoun occupée, de la militante sahraouie des droits de l’homme Aminatou Haidar, en grève de la faim à l'aéroport de Lanzarote, aux Iles Canaries, depuis le 16 novembre. "Eu égard à la dégradation rapide de l'état de santé de Aminatou Haidar, en grève de la faim à l'aéroport de Lanzarote depuis le 16 novembre, le Haut Commissaire lance un appel en vertu des bons offices du HCR et, pour des motifs purement humanitaires, aux gouvernements des deux Etats directement concernés, l'Espagne et le Maroc, afin d'envisager toute mesure pouvant faciliter son transfert et sortir de l'impasse actuelle", a indiqué le HCR dans un communiqué.
